Dallas Yoga Center, The Hockaday School and other community leaders, bring a 4-day mindfulness tour to Dallas with renowned author, Harvard lecturer and mindfulness expert, Dr. Christopher Willard.

The tour provides multiple opportunities for educators, students, families, and counselors to deepen their knowledge of how mindfulness can be an effective tool for providing healthier emotional wellbeing in the face of today’s stress-filled life.

In Raising Resilience for Educators, Dr. Willard offers tools for creating schools with healthier and more empowered teachers and students. He shares exercises for cultivating a classroom that promotes virtues such as generosity, kindness, honesty, determination, and patience. He will also guide the audience through multiple mindfulness experiences that can be applied to a school setting such as mindful breathing and listening. Participants will learn about the neuroscience supporting mindfulness and how it strengthens the “executive decision-making” area of the brain and lessens the influence of the “fight or flight” response. Dr. Willard speaks globally about mindfulness, and presents an inspiring vision that is both fun and engaging. Educational leaders from across Dallas will share their experience with integrating mindfulness into their schools.

From this workshop you will be able to:

•   Describe ways to use mindfulness approaches for your own self-care

Join Dr. Christopher Willard in this three-hour workshop on mindfulness for health professionals. We will explore the importance of starting or deepening our own mindful self-care and expanding those practices to those for whom we provide care. You will learn mindfulness practices for yourself and others that have been shown to reduce stress, improve emotional wellbeing, and create a more resilient life. Participants will gain an understanding of mindfulness through evidence-based tools including breath work, movement, games, and creative activities for all ages. He will also teach us the neuroscience supporting mindfulness and how it strengthens the “executive decisionmaking” area of the brain and lessens the influence of the “fight or flight” response. We will discuss tailoring techniques to a range of issues, including learning differences, medical concerns, and mental health issues, for attention spans ranging from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Join Dr. Christopher Willard, internationally acclaimed author and lecturer on mindfulness, for a workshop that offers practical tools to strengthen your capacity to deal with frantic energies like anxiety and stress, and help you live a stronger and calmer life. Increase your resilience as you practice techniques to cultivate greater awareness and compassion for yourself, your loved ones, friends and co-workers.  Evidence based information from neuroscience and social emotional learning will inform and guide these sessions. Participants will learn about the neuroscience supporting mindfulness and how it strengthens the “executive decision making” area of the brain and lessens the influence of the “fight or flight” response. Gain personal insights on your mind and emotions as well as how they impact your relationships with others. Participants will be guided through multiple mindfulness experiences. Dr. Willard speaks globally about mindfulness and presents an inspiring vision that is both fun and educational. Simply bring an open mind and a willingness to explore.

There will be a 45 minute lunch break mid session.

Dr. Christopher Willard, (PsyD) is a renowned author, international speaker, and Harvard Medical School lecturer on mindfulness and psychology. He is the author of many books including Growing Up Mindful (2016) and, the soon to be released, Raising Resilience (2017).  He currently serves on the board of directors at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy and is the President of the Mindfulness in Education Network.
