  • 8 Wk Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Series
  • $450 by Sept 14 / $500 After

Mindful-Self Compassion (MSC) was developed by Kristen Neff, PhD and Christopher Germer, PhD to help cultivate self-compassion skills for daily life. MSC combines both mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for happiness and connectedness. Mindfulness increases awareness of our experiences and our emotions. Self-compassion increases our ability to bring kind and loving awareness to our experiences and ourselves. Together, mindfulness and self-compassion increase our awareness of pleasant moments and help us navigate difficult moments with greater ease.

MSC starts with incorporating mindfulness awareness of the present moment and then explores how we can respond compassionately to our own imperfections, without judgement or self-blame. The class offers scientifically based tools for using self-compassion to live more fully in the moment, even when difficult emotions arise, and how to be kind to yourself when you need it most. By letting pain or difficulty in, rather than avoiding, we learn essential steps on the path to wellbeing.

Clinical research shows that self-compassion is strongly related to mental and emotional wellbeing, with decrease in depression, anxiety, perfectionism. It is also correlated with increase in happiness, life satisfaction, motivation, self-responsibility, making healthy lifestyle choices, feeling more connected with others and better interpersonal relationships.

In this MSC class, you will learn to:

*Feel more present, aware and focused.
*Be more compassionate with self and others.
*Cultivate an increased sense of well-being.
*Reduce feelings of depression, anxiety and stress.
*Increase accepting thoughts about self, forgiveness of self.
*Increase optimism, curiosity, personal initiative, motivation, life satisfaction, emotional connection w/ others.

Each class builds on the one before. Between classes, there is home practice, using guided meditations and other exercises. In each class, you will have an opportunity to talk about your experiences with the home practices, any obstacles that might arise and how to deal with them skillfully. Each class is organized around a theme that is explored through both group discussion and mindful self-compassion practice.

You do NOT have to have prior meditation or mindfulness experience, everyone is welcome.

This series will meet for 2.5 hours once a week, for 8 weeks. The cost of the series includes the book, The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion by Chris Germer.

MSC is not therapy and is not intended to replace individual counseling.
